Butterflies in the Making

When I bought my small wrought iron scrolls the other day I noticed there were 2 butterfly coccoons attached to them. On the ride home one of them fell off. Not wanting to miss the chance to actually see a butterfly emerge, I used some thread and tied the coccoon to the scroll that the Stehanotis is already climbing on. I thought the cover from the leaves might keep it somewhat hidden from predators.... I'm not sure if the bumpy ride rolling around in the bed of the truck did this poor thing any good, but figured I'd try and see what happens. The other coccon seems like it is in better shape and still attched naturally. These are Monarch Butterfly coccoons. I'll keep you posted on their progress. :-)

Another miracle of life......

  1. Yes, wouldn't that be too cool!!! I looked online and evidently these change color as the butterfly morphs. We'll see.... :-)
