Playing catch up

It seems I am always playing catch up here in blogland.   Life just keeps rolling on (like a jet plane!!!).......don't know where the time has gone......it is already almost June!!!!

So...to try to catch up with what has been going on in my Little Corner of the World......

When I started unpacking boxes here at this house, I had to be serious about what I would keep and what I would let go of.  I have just acquired soo much stuff over the past 20 years and soo much of it I really never use.   This is a time in my life where I am wanting to simplify and make life easier......So.....as I went thru each box, items were put away, where they will live here in this house, or they were put in a box marked "garage sale".   Then that box was put in the garage.......the garage never seemed to be getting emptier.   It was time to have THE garage sale!!!!!

I had a brilliant idea that I could have a Longaberger sale at the same time as the garage sale.....the garage was pretty much full of my Longaberger baskets, pottery, etc from selling for soo many years. I just don't have room for very many of these items anymore and I have kept out and am using my favorites. I took a break from selling on e-Bay because of needing to pack and move and then being so busy getting things together here at the house.

I started bringing in box after box from the garage and reuniting baskets with their fabric liners, plastic protectors, lids, etc.... I spent a good part of 2 weeks every day after work researching prices and tagging these items.   I know when I was selling on e-Bay, the biggest hurdle was the shipping charges to mail these items, so with an Open House type sale, that wouldn't be an issue.   I priced everything a little bit less than what they were selling for on e-Bay.    I placed an ad everyday on Craigslist with pictures and prices.   Got everything ready, got up early and got everything set out with the Longaberger stuff on tables along the walkway and on the front porch and the garage sale stuff on the driveway.

The sale would be from 8:00 - 2:00
Well, at 10:30 a friend from my route that I had mentioned the sale to showed up and bought a few things....other than that, not a single person showed up!!!!!

I just wanted to crawl under a rock!!!!

We did sell about $100 worth of stuff at the garage sale.....SOOO not worth all the work of that part either........ By 5:00 we had all the garage sale stuff packed up in the car and took it all to Goodwill......it was NOT going back into the garage!!!!

All the Longaberger got re-packed in boxes and put back in the garage to be sold on e-Bay!!!!!    (after a break....I don't even want to look at it right now)

But, on a very good note, the fence is finished and is beautiful!!!!!

Blinds have been hung and a new kitchen faucet!!!!

The walls were spackled to fill in all the holes, here is the 2nd bedroom for example....don't have a clue what was on this wall, but looks like they could not decide where to hang the pictures!!!!
Found paint in the garage for all the rooms, (except this one) so a little bit of touch up and you would never know there were soo many holes just a couple weeks ago.....Amazing!!!!
We will re-paint the whole inside at some point, but now it is not soo bad to look at.

We want to have some COLOR in the kitchen, so trying to decide where to go.   I am leaning towards a bright yellow-orange type color.......
And now I just found out my friend Stephanie is an interior designer........Guess what Steph, I'll be asking for your help on this one!!!!   Hee hee

Part of the reason of going gang busters on getting the house together is that Mel's daughter Brenna arrived last night for a visit and of course, you always want everything perfect when company comes.    She will stay here for a week and then the 3 of us will fly up to Canada where I will finally be able to meet the rest of Mel's family.

This will be such a great week to get to know Brenna and for her to have some time with her dad.   We met on Skype, but time together in person will be soooooo much better!!!!!    She lives in Australia with her fiance and will be getting married next year.  The wedding will be in Thailand, so guess where my vacation will be next year??!!!!   Our thoughts so far are that we would spend a few days in Thailand and then hop over to Bali, since there is no surfing in Thailand.....hee hee     And I'm sure a trip to Australia will not be too far away......maybe when the first grandbaby shows up???? (ya never know....)

Have to share some pictures from the yard....it is soo alive with birds and flowers.   I hung a humming bird feeder out a few months ago and they won't even touch it.....there are too many REAL flowers.....

Columbine......gorgeous!!!
Pomegranate
It has been very interesting to watch how the fruit forms from the flower.

Here is the Navel Orange tree.....HUGE!!!!!!

And the Fig tree.......also HUGE!!

So.....that should catch you up a little bit........a short break from all of it for the next couple weeks.

Hope all is well you your Little Corner of the World!!!!
