River Rejuvenation

Got back from the Colorado River a few days ago.  Thought I would share some pictures of the trip.  It was very relaxing and the weather was a wonderful 85-90º.  The water is still a bit too cold to enjoy, but I did dunk under a couple times just to say I did......  ha ha

I always know I am on my way to the river when I see the wind turbines.........

I decided to drive thru Joshua Tree, it is alot more scenic than that boring I-10......  This is a Joshua Tree.  They only grow in the Mojave desert.  I always enjoy looking at them when I drive thru.  Such an unusual tree........

Here is a fun but weird art piece.   There used to be a tree here that was covered with shoes.    It was one of those fun things that you just had to be part of if you were traveling thru the area........People would throw their shoes up over the branches of the tree.   It was something to look at....well, unfortunately, there are always those who have to ruin the fun, and someone burned the tree down.  I remember being soo bummed when I saw the blackened tree.   Well, the regulars thru this area were not going to let the fun idea go away, so they started putting their shoes on this fence.   It has been collecting shoes for at least the past few years......hopefully this piece of art will last for awhile.......it's not as cool looking as the tree was, but it still is fun to see when you are driving thru the middle of nowhere.........

Did some hiking up in the hills, there were a few cactus blooming.  Gorgeous.  This is a Beavertail Cactus.

It is the most gorgeous shade of magenta.....

This was one cactus I would not want to mess with......

it is called a Teddy Bear Choya......ouch!!!!

Here is the gorgeous Colorado River...the water was soo blue.....and cold!!!!

There were some boat races going on during the weekend.  A lot of fun...

This race was crazy.....all of these boats were jumping at once.  It was really loud, the ground was moving.

Sometimes it was just a much fun to watch the drivers.....

These boats were amazing.....they had little 45hp motors and the flew around the course!!!!!

Heading home from nice,clear, warm weather to these dark clouds and then some rain.....

The vacation went by too fast as usual, but now I just have the next trip to look forward to......
