Mexico - Week 1

I can't believe I have been here in wonderful Mexico for a week already!!!   The time flies...... I had hoped to post before now, but the days are gone before I know it.    The weather is a bit cooler than I had hoped, in the high 70's, low 80's...( better than at home though!!!)  The water is about 73-74...soo much better than the 58 degrees at home!!!

Soo much agriculture here, the wonderful, fertile soil..everything grows here.

Welcome to Mexico.....even their control tower is bright orange colored!!!!
Got thru security fine, but got the "red" light which means they search ALL of your bags!!!!  I brought down a bunch of "stuff" for everyone here, so my bags were quite odd.....black beans (organic) dried fruit, dark chocolate covered almonds, I brought down a bunch of the See's candy I had gotten for Christmas, along with surfboard wax, a surfboard bag, peanut butter (organic) and some jars of jelly, peanut butter pretzels, etc. (you get the picture).......as the guy was digging thru the boxes, pulling out the cans of black beans he looked at me and said, "You know, we do have black beans here!!"  :-)   hee hee
Got here in time to see a beautiful sunset!!!

Here is a view of the beach looking south......we surf off the point.

looking north......

I've been surfing every day, usually we go out in the morning for a couple hours and sometimes back out again in the afternoon.........  The waves have been small which is good for me, since it has been soo long since I have been out in the water at home.   I am using an 8' board and haven't had too much trouble.  I've been able to get up, but the waves are quite small so there isn't alot of push to keep me going once I stand up.   We took off on Tuesday and went to a couple different surf spots in Punta de Mita.  One was called Burros.....I sat on the beach, the waves were about 8-9' (gorgeous though), then we headed over to Anclote which is a beginner spot and the waves were between 3-5'......they just peeled off 2 or 3 waves deep and went forever.......there were a ton of people there and it was hard to get a wave, but the water was gorgeous turquoise color and it was just fun to be there...

Wednesday we went to watch Eulogio shape a new board he is working on.   For those of my surfing friends, you will enjoy this.......
He has these huge blocks of foam that he screws a wooden template on the sides, then with a hot wire, he cuts the foam on top and bottom of the template.
These pieces of foam then have the stringer glued in between and it becomes the blank.....
Measurements are taken, marks are made all along the blank
A template is used to draw the outside edge shape.......
Then the cutting begins........all the way around.....and waa-laa, the beginning of a surfboard.  This will be a 5'11" Mini Fish........
I'll post more when it's done......

We have alot of very good musicians here in the area.  They have impromptu concerts in the evenings, so got to catch one on Thursday night..........poured some tequila, triple sec and mango juice in a container, grabbed a couple glasses and down the beach we headed to the bungalo's where they were playing....great evening, then on the way back had to stop and watch the sunset.........
Sunsets are a big deal around here.....you have to sit with a cocktail or drink of some kind and reflect on the day while you watch a gorgeous sunset!!!

OK, That's it for now, I'll post again soon........

Wish you ALL were here!!!!!
Love ya,
