It's been a busy month around here....
I've been going to physical therapy for 2 weeks now and I feel like I am making progress. I'm not sure if it is enough progress though....surgery was 4 weeks ago today. I feel like I should be further along with my healing. This surgery has a typical 4-6 week recovery and I cannot even imagine going back to work full duty in 2 more weeks. I don't have to worry about that right now, because in 2 weeks I will be having the same surgery to my right knee.....WHOA!!!! I hope I will be ready!!! My therapist is working me like a dog to get my left leg strong enough!!!
We have been busy around here, as usual. I'm doing what I can to help and I know I am over-doing it a bit, but I also know my leg wouldn't be as strong as it is if I just sat around in the house.
We got our chipper/mulcher a couple weeks ago and finally made it thru that HUGE pile of Honeysuckle trimmings.
Mel figures we got about 2 yards of mulch!!! THAT'S IT!!!! It looks like really nice mulch though. It will be pretty around the plants.
We are getting ready to get the tomato garden planted, I would like to have that planted before I go in for my surgery - then everything can grow while I sit inside... hee hee
Mel dug a trench all the way around to put in the irrigation...
Then he put in gopher screen all around the edge going about 16" deep - hope that keeps the suckers out......we were going to put the screen all across the bottom, but this garden is pretty big and that would have cost quite a bit, so we decided to just go all the way around the edge..... Then came all the pipe work. We turned it on and it all works great!!! Now it will water on it's own schedule.
The paint all along the cap was getting pretty faded and starting to peel, so I got the fun job of sanding it all down. Now we need to paint it, and knowing Mel like I do, it will be 1 coat of primer, then 2 coats of paint, with sanding in between!!! UGH!!!! This will take me a week, I'm sure..... but I know it will be wonderful when it is done and it will last a lot longer. :-)
I bought some fun acrylic paints to freshen up the wording and tomato pictures along the edges - now that will be fun!!!
The words are Tomato in languages from all over the world....creativity from prior owners....
Yesterday we drove into Escondido to the Mushroom Farm where they have wonderful mushroom compost for FREE!!!! Better than anything you can get in the stores or even at the soil place. We were able to get 3 trash cans in my car - YEP, in the car...... It's hard when you don't have a truck....... luckily this compost doesn't smell bad. That is all worked into the soil now so we are ready to go to the nursery and see what we can find. Maybe that will be Sundays job. I LOVE going to the nursery!!!!
Still haven't found any time to sew, but I have found a couple patterns online that I want to try. Hopefully soon.....
All of the trees that we cut back soo hard are budding out, I think they will look great in a couple more months.
This is the persimmon tree.....YEA!!!!
The fig tree is very slow, but it is showing a few tiny buds along these bare branches.
I don't think we will get any figs this year.
and the Pineapple Guava...
OK, back to it for now.....
Have a great weekend!!
Wow, it looks like you are improving not only your knee, but the gardens as well! Make sure you take care of yourself, Shell....don't hurt yourself!
