Just a little update....

It has been a little while since I posted the happenings around here, so thought I'd jot a line or two.

We finally got the raised garden beds planted.  There wasn't much choice at the nursery, so that tells me I am late in my planting.   We did manage to find a couple herbs that looked interesting: Italian Basil, Parsley and Oregano.  Those were planted along with several colorful flowers to fill one of the beds.

My zucchini didn't do very well in one of the other garden beds, so I thought I would start over with a couple more plants.  Since zucchini get pretty big, we planted only 1 in each garden and also included some Japanese Eggplant and a green pepper.  Also put some flowers in to fill the space and add some color.  I know nothing about eggplant, I don't even know if I really like it, but I do remember one time Mel ordered it at a Thai restaurant and it was ok.  These are the long eggplant and they are used a lot in stir-fry type dishes, so we'll see how it goes.

One of the beds seems to be full of radishes and carrots, but there was 1 more eggplant plant, so it got thrown in there......this is the first year for these gardens, so anything goes, until I figure out what I really want to grow.  We seem to have more radishes than I know what to do with.

I pulled up the snow peas this weekend and will re-plant more green beans.  They have been soo yummy!!!!   I will pull up the old green bean plants in the next week or so and plant more peas, not sure if I want snow or snap peas... Hmmmm.....      :-)

The tomatoes are finally starting to ripen, this is my first ever large tomato.
I never seemed to be able to get them to grow without the blossom end rot.  That is usually caused by irregular water and now that everything is on the irrigation system, it doesn't seem to be a problem.... YEA!!!!   There is nothing like the flavor of home grown tomatoes...... the ones in the store are just YUK!!!!  Hopefully I can keep these plants growing for a long season.....

I am working 6 hours a day now and I am really liking my new route....  It is about as different from my old route as it could possibly be.   I am making new friends every day, just hope I can keep all the names straight!!!!    What I really like about the area is that it is quiet and peaceful.  I see rabbits, squirrels, lizards and birds all day long.  :-)  (Big Smile!!!)   I have a really nice trailer park with super nice people, a little bit of business area and lots of nice homes.  The end of the route is a couple large apartment complexes which are not great, but not really difficult either, just time consuming to get all the junk mail in all the boxes.  One of the complexes is 236 units..... just a long WALL of boxes!!!!   I might try to get that part done in the morning so I can enjoy the rest of my day instead of knowing I still have to deal with it at the end of the day....plus the sun beats down on me at the end of the day.
This was a good move, but I do still miss my customers on my old route.

We are getting ready to get the path finished around the back area of the yard.  We will put in a composite wood border (kinda like bender board - only stronger) with the mulch on the outsides and DG on the path.  It should really define the path better and finish the look.   Then comes the planting.....as we get to it.   Still have to decide on all the plants......

So, still busy as ever in our little corner of the world.....
How's your corner???

  2. I'll be curious to see your path when it's done as we're currently debating how to define our path across the back slope.
