Back to our real world

We have been home for almost 2 weeks now and we are ready to head out again!!!!   Take me back to a slower pace and warmer weather!!!!!

Our first morning home we were putting sweats on....time for the heavier duvet and the flannel sheets.....Brrrr    We will need to turn the heater on soon!!  Where did our warm weather go????  The last 2 days have been pretty nice :-)

The good things about this time of year are persimmons and pomegranates......
Had to buy them this year, hopefully the trees will produce next year.
Life has been busy as usual, like we never left.  My first day back to work was a 10 hour day, and with all the political mail, every day since  has been between 9-10 hours.   I am trying to look at the bright side and with all this OT, I should be able to put $ away for another trip. :-). Our Christmas mail has already started, so I think it is going to be a busy winter.....they are estimating that our parcels will be up about 40% this season......

On another note, yesterday was my 25th anniversary with the post office!!!!

Mel has started in on a couple chores around the house.   We needed to replace our outside back garage door, it was swelling shut whenever it rained.   Since this is an older house, it seems we have to special order just about everything.   I would have thought a door was a door, but nope, they come in all sizes and ours was a unique size.......  We ordered it before we left, knowing it would take a month to get it in.    Mel has been working on it for a couple days, getting everything to fit just right.  Now to get the paint figured out.

Our poor avocado tree is looking very bad these days.  We couldn't believe how bad it looked when we got home.
The canopy is soo thin...compared to last year, and the leaves are very small and thin.  This is 2 years ago when we had it trimmed.....

We called a couple arborists, but they just seem to know how to prune trees, not how to make them grow or fix them if they are sick.   We were referred to Fallbrook Ag Laboratory.  Rick is the "go to guy" for everything avocado.....  He came out to the house to have a look at our tree.   He put us on a new watering schedule, took a soil sample and got us going on giving our tree injections, (yes, injections) He thinks we can save the tree, with some help.   Phosphoric acid is what we will inject 3 times per year.  (phosphoric acid is found in Coca Cola Classic.....I guess large growers will inject the actual cola soda to save $..... Gives a new meaning to a "hit of coke" Hee hee

Seems avocados do not like salt at all and the Colorado River, where our water comes from is loaded with salt.....we will need to water heavily once a week to flush out the salts.......we haven't done the tree any good by rinsing out our wetsuits under it!!!!!  OOOOOpss!!!😳
Hopefully with this new program we can bring the tree back to what it should be.
Mel has calculated that we will both need to eat 4 avocados each week, for a year to break even.....ha ha ha

I'm hoping to find some time to play with my batik fabrics.   If anyone is going to Bali, this is the place to go for all kinds of batiks!!!!!
I could have soo easily brought more back, but both suitcases were stuffed plus both backpacks!!!!  No more room!!!!  As usual, I have lots of ideas, just need time to act on them......

Well, that is about all that is happening here, since returning from a wonderful vacation.   Not many pictures this time, we'll have to see what is happening over the next few weeks.

  1. I can't wait to see what you do with some of those beautiful batiks....Expecting weather in the low 30's the end of this week - and that's the highs! I surely do miss SoCal weather!
