Playing with fabric......

Just in the nick of time...... I finished the wallets!!!!!

Cathy came over to the house a few months ago and picked out these fabrics.
Now I have known since then that these needed to be finished for Christmas....... I just thought I had plenty of time.........ha ha
Figured I could get right on them when I got back from Hawaii.........well, that didn't quite work as planned since we are working soo much Overtime at work.
But....... here they are......

Got the buttons sewn on today, so they are ready to go........
These were fun to make, and really pretty easy, just time consuming when you don't have much time.... hee hee
Here is the inside...... perfect for traveling when you don't want to carry a purse.

I put my Dr. license, credit card/debit card, insurance card and some cash in the pockets.  It fits in your pocket.   You don't need anything else!!!
They are also great for keeping all those misc. business cards handy or for all those gift cards......
This pattern is from Lazy Girl Designs.
I will change the pattern a little bit the next time I make these.  There is alot of bulk in the corners from all the layers of fabric.

I also found a great velcro product.    It was soo difficult to sew on the little strips of velcro and have them stay straight...... I can't even tell you how many I had to rip out.....UGH!!!!   Well, I knew there had to be a better way!!!!!   I started searching online for another method.   I even ordered some little magnetic snaps from Hong Kong!!!!!   Well, I ran across "Fusible Velcro"!!!!  What a DREAM of a product!!!!!!
It is a bit pricey, but in my own opinion I think it is worth every penny......  This velcro has a sticky back so you can place it where ever you need it.  Then you use an iron on the hottest setting with steam and a pressing cloth.  You don't want to iron right on the velcro, so use a pressing cloth, iron from the back side if possible and iron for 90 seconds. (keep the iron moving.....)   I was able to get the velcro to stick in 60 seconds, but you would need to try it for yourself.  This is an amazing product.   The velcro backing actually seems to become part of the fabric.  It says it bonds even better with washings......
I was able to get some of this at Joanns.com on their Black Friday deals.  They had notions for 50% off with free shipping....SCORE!!!!!
I can think of soooo many uses!!!!

Now onto more projects.....

Here are a couple fabrics I need to make little purses for twin 4 year olds.   The orange and green fabrics have set of eyes and has gold wording that says, " I see you"   Too cute!!!   I thought the checked fabrics would work for lining.   Any ideas on a pattern for a little girl.  I have been looking online for free patterns, there aren't many for little girl purses.

And here is a big girl purse in the idea stage.    A friend said she needed a purse to go with her purple Hawaiian dress.   When I was in Hawaii I picked up a couple fabrics I though might work, but I had never seen her dress.   She came by the house while I was gone and picked thru my fabrics for some colors that might work.   Turned out the fabrics I picked out were perfect.  Here is a picture of her dress on the left and the fabrics we have choosen..........
The 2 Hawaiian prints are the ones I got in Hawaii.  These are all batiks, oh soo yummy!!!!  I told her no gurantees when this will be done........she won't wear the dress until next summer, so I should have plenty of time.......but that is what I thought about the wallets!!!!!

It's been pretty cold here, so not much time spent outdoors.   The plumeria are a little confused, they are still trying to bloom.   It is about 35-40º in the mornings and then warms up to 65-70º in the day and then cools off again at night.....I think it is time to bring them under the patio, but I know they are loving the afternoon warmth.....maybe next weekend.....

Day off is almost over, back to it tomorrow.

Have a great week!!!!

  2. Love those little purses. Marjee and I have been using them for many years, and I try to make one to go with every purse I make. They are such fun to make and addictive! Back to trying to stay warm-----
