As much as I had fun making those little purses, the reality set in that I needed to get back to work.....I had to start in again on the yard. I figured there was no excuse not to get weeds pulled since the ground was soft from all the rain.
I made a couple new discoveries........
Discovered......I can't kill a gopher.......... I saw a fresh mound of dirt and when I walked by, the gopher had his head sticking out.....he immediately sank back down......I didn't know what to do so I grabbed the hose and started running water down the hole......he was trying to get out, past the hose.....he finally did and he just sat at the edge of his hole gasping for breath.... I'm thinking "Crap, what do I do now???" I grabbed a lid of a box and put it over the top of him......then ran into the garage to see if I could find anything to put him in so he didn't dig another hole back into the ground.........I found a bucket with a lid........well, when I got back to him, he was still just sitting there, gasping for air........I just pushed him into the bucket and put the lid on........I didn't know what to do...... I can't kill him......even though he is tearing up the yard, I just can't kill him.........He sat in the bucket for a few hours. I pondered and pondered what in the heck I was going to do with him.......I had to run to Sears to find out about the fridge,(another long drama story) so I took him with me in the bucket and I found a really big field on the way..... I let him go......I know, I'm crazy!!!! He wouldn't leave the bucket so I had to dump him out. He just looked up at me as if saying," really?.....You're just gonna leave me here??" Better than dying is what I told him!!!!
Discovered......another flower bed that was totally buried in weeds....to the left of the casita......There are grape hyacinths, tulips (an orange one was blooming) Amaryllis and a few things I can't identify yet....... This is soo much fun!!!!
notice all the weeds are gone......2 trash cans!!!
Discovered.......we have a peach tree!!!! I wasn't sure if it was just a flowering tree......as the flowers died, these little fuzzy peaches appeared!!!I LOVE fresh peach pie!!!!
YUMMMMMMM!!!!!!
As I was walking out to take a picture of the baby peaches, this is what I ran into.......
UGH!!!! These gophers are testing me!!!!
I grabbed the hose (and the bucket....) and started filling the holes with water and trying to wash some of the dirt back into the holes. No gophers popped out, so either they drown or they had another way out....not sure..... In this spot there were 13 holes and they all connected to each other!!!!!
I also saw a new pile of fresh dirt in the front yard also, so grabbed that hose (and the bucket....) and started in on those holes......There were a ton. No gophers popped up, so........
Here is just one area of the front yard....and all of these holes connect!!!!
I counted 71 holes in the front yard.....and the front yard is small!!!!!
I think I have declared WAR on these gophers!!!!
I was really not liking a couple of the bushes under the avocado tree. I felt like they were taking over.......I thought about pulling them out and then all the sudden it clicked in my brain that maybe I could just trim them down to a better level.........so...... I started cutting....... I probably cut the height down about 1/3 and then trimmed up the sides to make them a little neater. I was trying to rake the leaves from below and was getting frustrated that there were too many branches that were catching the rake and I couldn't get in at all......... I decided to clean out a few of the branches under the bushes to allow a rake to get in........In the fall it is fine to let the leaves lay on the ground, it mulches the soil and keeps it warmer....come spring though all those leaves need to be cleaned out. I found lots of mildews starting in the piles of leaves. I ended up cleaning out quite a few plants, getting them all trimmed up and cleaned out. They look soo much happier now. I filled 7 green waste cans just in 1 day........ don't know if you can really see, but it the bushes to the right, under the tree.......
Aren't these Hyacinths gorgeous? These were a birthday present from my aunt......
Remember this Pineapple Lily? I have had it for a few years now. Look how many plants have popped up....Ohhh, it is going to be soo pretty when it blooms!!!! Might have to put it in a bigger pot!!!!
Here is a peek at the Satsuma Tangerine tree I planted right before the rain last weekend. I hope it is happy here.....
Got the RV area all cleared out and cleaned up to make room for Mel. He should be here next weekend..... :-)
Had to get the trailer sold, the car shelter sold, the avocado tree removed. (bummer, but we still have the BIG one in the back yard)
Stacked all the wood from the tree they cut down.
Hope to have some fun fires in the pit this summer.....
Started in on scrubbing the grout on the kitchen floor.......YUK!!! Even worse than the counters......
Oh, also discovered........the mega-pack of garden gloves at Costco is probably something I am going to need to pick up!!!! hee hee
wore right thru these......in 1 month.......
Played around with a recipe......I made a chicken/veggie meatloaf a little while back and wanted to try to make some burgers......same idea; ground chicken, zuccini, carrots, broccoli, some garlic and spices and wha-la......
Cooked up super easy, but I'm sure would be better on the BBQ. I sprinkled a little bit of cumin on top as it was cooking.....still was a little bit bland so I put a tiny bit of garlic salt and it was much better......When I cook the next one I will try some of the Grill Mates Montreal Chicken spice. It needed a little something, but was tasty......
Doesn't that look tasty???!!!!!
It is strawberry season again!!! YUMMMMMMM!!!!
OK, that is what is happening here this week.....it is pouring rain again, so I think I'll go play with some fabric!!!!
Have a GREAT week!!!!!
