Front yard Make-over has begun!!!!

As if we didn't have enough to do, or haven't done enough already, we have started on the landscaping of the front yard!!!!    We started getting things lined up and that kinda gets the whole thing rolling.  Here are some pics from a few days ago, before we started.
Front of the house from across the street.

view from the driveway

view to the left of the house, looking at the fence between us and our neighbors......it is completely covered with jade, aloes, and some sage......the little rock border on the bottom right was full of Sword Fern.

Day #1
All cleaned out along the fence (gained about 2 feet) and the rock wall next to the house has been removed as well as all the Sword Fern.  (still some under the Camellia)  The Camellia and the Amber Loquat are staying.....

Day #2
1st tree removed, getting all the crabgrass dug up!!!!  Also dug up the little palms along the fence and the Birds of paradise.  They are planted in the back garden until we have their bed ready!!!!
The ground is VERY hard and we were thinking it would take a month at least to get everything dug, trenches dug up and the dirt "fluffed".  Our neighbor who helped get the RV shelter leveled offered to bring down his excavator to help.
We went shopping for plants and rock and found 2 great palms from a friend of a friend who is a palm collector.  Here is a picture of one growing at his house.
This palm is called Ravenea Glauca.  It is a more rare palm, not really well known so that makes it even more fun.  It will be gorgeous!!!

Day #3
I came home from work and our neighbor was already at work...( a day early)  YEA!!!!!
The trees had been removed, the main irrigation ditches are dug, except for the ones that have to be dug by hand!!!!!  Look at that pile of dirt that needs to be hauled to the back yard!!!!! UGH!!!!
Most of the yard has now beel fluffed up to break up the hard soil and give the ground some air!!!!  This will make it soo much better for the new plants.

So.......this weekend looks like a date with a shovel and a wheelbarrow...we are thinking we will have this finished in just a couple weeks.

I'll keep you posted!!!!

  1. Wow! I truly do know what hard work this is. The lovely young EMT who moolights doing yard work has finally finished my yard.....he's now laboring away at my neighbor's yard. Good luck with it. My back hurts just looking at that pile of dirt.
