Surf camp - part 3

This morning I missed my surf session!!!!!  Around here it is "if you snooze, you lose".....

I was up and ready to go, but I needed someone to look at my foot because I got something in it yesterday.   Shaggy dug around a bit and I think there was a shard of glass in there that I picked up from the beach.  When he was done, I went to get changed and brush my teeth and when I came out, the group was gone!!!!  I had just missed them.   I was a bit bummed, but I knew I could go out with the 2nd group a little later.

I had the most awesome surf session!!!!  I stood up at the top of the wave 3 times in a row.  Simon had suggested I take out an 8'4" board instead of the 7'9" I have been using.  It was soo much fun, I can't even explain it.  I always seem to slide down the wave before I stand up, which is not what you want to do.  Anyway, this was soo exciting for me.....:-)!!!!!     YEA!!!!!

There is a yoga class this afternoon and then a party tonight.  The theme is "paint your face".......
Paint it with whatever you can find.     I have not looked around much and don't have a clue what we will do..........
Well, this is what I came up with for my face painting.......
There are flowers all around.  I thought about trying to grind them up with some water, but then thought that I might end up with a semi-permanent dye on my face.  Thinking some more, I decided to put honey on my face and then stick the flower petals to my face....It was a bit much all over so I ended up removing the petals on my lower jaw area.   It was original if nothing else...

We didn't stay at the party very long, not our thing.  Most of the campers here are in their mid to late 20's, so they were having a great time.
Here is the "drink table" the next morning......not pictured are all the glasses of Vodka Red Bull mixed with whatever....
I'm soo glad I'm not in my 20's anymore!!!!!!

It was a LONG night of partying.......the noise went till almost 2:00am - and everything is pretty much open, so even ear plugs didn't help.....

The next day was a day off.  They had a trip to a really nice beach, or shopping, or you could stay and surf.    The 3 couples: Mel and I, Martina & Lucas and Sarah & Shaun hit the beach.   The younger crown went shopping....... I don't remember the name of this beach, but it was on a really nice, big bay, the sand was white and the water turquoise.   All of us pretty much parked ourselves in the shade and just relaxed.   It has been a busy week......
Mel and I took the snorkels out to the reef, but weren't able to see much.  The sun wasn't out much and there was a lot of sand churned up in the water.  There were lots of these corals.
When the sun did pop out they were much prettier.

Us....... Hee hee

I finally got my fresh coconut that I had been wanting since we got to Thailand.  Check out this vendor on the beach.
I love the way they get around......anything and everything is on the road.....No rules, no worries!!!!!!

Loved all these brightly painted boats on the beach!!
Saw this fisherman coming in.
His catch for the day is handed off to his wife???
She carried it up to the little shack where they were selling them fried....
Done for the day, getting the boat ashore...
Loved watching these little guys catching these waves.....

After a nice rest on the beach, we headed to a really nice restaurant called Ashtari for lunch.  I think it was more Indian vegetarian type food.  Everyone raves about it, but none of us thought much of it.  I guess when you live here and eat fried Indo food all the time, this is a great place.  They had wonderful chocolate cake though....with a coconut cream sauce......OOHHHHHH!!!!!
The best part about this restaurant (other than the cake), is the view!!!!
This is overlooking Kuta bay.
The pictures never do it justice!!!!!!

Then we headed back to Kuta to find a wi-fi cafe and I was ably to upload the last 2 blog posts....

After a nice "day off", we were ready to get back in the water yesterday....there was a lot of wind and the swell was pretty big.  It was rough!   I went for the "free surf", which is an extra session for the day, and it was early.......I got wiped out on the first wave and held under for awhile.  Trying to paddle back out I realized how strong the waves were...... Never underestimate Mother Nature.  I got back in the boat exhausted!!  There were 2 girls who never got out of the boat in the first place..... When the instructors realized we were not going to surf here, they took us to a break called "kids point".  It was a really fun, smaller wave.  By this time we only had about 30 min, so not much practice here.

My regular session for the day was at 1:30.  The winds were still blowing pretty good.  We headed out to our regular break, called "Don-Dons".  It looked a bit rough, but I thought I could handle an inside wave.   The instructors call us into the lineup and then they are usually helping us catch the waves.   They give us an extra push to help us get in front of the wave.  It got pushed on a wave that was huge!!!!   Huge for me.  I did manage to stand up and it was over my head!!!!!  I was in survival mode!!!  Then I saw the whitewater coming at me FAST and I knew I was going to get creamed.   I did and I was tumbled underwater for what seemed like 5 minutes, but I'm sure it was less than 10 seconds.  When I came up I grabbed my board, rode the white water to the side channel and I was done for the day!!!!    UGH!!!!!

Today my session isn't until 1:30.  There is just a slight wind, so hopefully it will be a good day.......
