This morning I was able to catch a fisherman coming back with his catch.
All the women gather on both sides as the net is unfolded and they pick the fish out of the net.
Too bad this photo was blurry.....
Today is our last surf session. Tonight we have a sunset cruise on the big boat.
We had 3 people in punishment pants for our surf session......Martina ran into the dining room with wet feet because she saw REAL pizza on the bar!!!! A real pizza is only available in Mataram, which is 1 1/2 hours away!!!!! She said it was totally worth the punishment pants. But she looks really cute in hers....
Sakura got punishment pants for missing a surf session...
Sandra was caught in the dining room with wet feet also......they all put on the short shorts and hot pink rashes!!!!!!!
Then they pulled out all the outfits and everyone put them on!!!!
It was a fun surf session!!!!! I didn't surf because my shoulder has been really sore. I stayed on the boat and took a few pictures.
Johnsson
Sakira.....
Simon...
It was pretty funny...A boat pulled up next to ours and they had a full on TV camera. The person who got out of their boat to surf had obviously never surfed before...never paddled before.....The Indo guys said it was an Indo news crew....They were filming this guy on a surfboard, we started wondering if he was some kind of prince or someone famous who wanted to surf.....Sandra and I were sitting on top of the boat and they started filming us. When Simon got back on the boat in his outfit, they were asking if "it" was a boy?? Hee hee.....then he took off his rashie and said, "yes, a boy". It was pretty funny....
Our sunset cruise was nice....a bit of chill time out in the bay.......
the only bad part is the music!!! Camp is usually full of 20-30 year olds, so the music is what they like to hear......which is loud and thumping......not nice music for us old farts!!!!!
We had to pack up afterwards and be ready to head out the next morning....
Mel had a surf session at 4:50am, one last chance to catch Indo waves. I went along for the ride since I haven't been able to see him surf since we got here. It was dark when we headed out, and we got to the spot before everyone else. They had about 45 minutes of nice waves, only 2 other people to share with. Then the boats started showing up, lots of people, so we headed back to camp, had some breakfast and got ready to say goodbye to all our new friends......
We headed to Kuta for our last night. We found a room at the Hey Hey homestay.
Very basic room.....clean and colorful!!!! :-)
Our bathroom......
View from our front porch.....
After we got situated, we headed into town for some lunch and a walk......Mel found a little bit of shade on the beach....
Too bad there is soo much trash on the beaches.....they just don't understand .....
These 3 kids sat down and talked with us for a little while.....they love to practice their English.
Elizabeth age 13, Nico age 8, Sherani age 10
A lot of the kids try to sell these bracelets. These kids were really nice until we told them we were not going to buy anything from them......first they are your friend, but only if you buy something. They learn at a very young age bartering.....I was going to buy a bracelet, but I knew I would have to buy 1 from each of them and they would not tell me the price......they wanted to barter. I was not going there... There are a lot of women selling sarongs on the beach as well...They want to know where you are from and your name...Calling you their friend....again only a friend if you buy something.....A bit annoying!!!!
We were chilling on the beach for a little while, trying to get a picture of the waves for Uncle Dean.
All the waves are accessible only by boat. This bay is a huge reef, so this wave is WAY out there. They are easily double over head....They peel all the way across.
I didn't get many pictures of the big waves because I was never taken to the big wave surf spots.
Mel's group went to a couple of the bigger wave breaks. We got a disc with all his pictures, so I will post some when we get home and I have time to go thru some.
We met a couple more kids on the beach who saw me with a camera. They all wanted their picture taken. Mel kinda warned me, but I thought they were just having fun. Well, as I was showing one of them the pictures, another one grabbed into my bag and pulled out a fruit bar we had just bought. I grabbed it from him, yelled NO, and told them "Goodbye!!". One of them pushed at my leg and they all ran off. I don't think I will do the picture thing anymore, and I will be a little more untrusting of these little kids. I deleted all their pictures!!!! It is a shame to feel that way!! I think they look at us westerners and they think "money". I feel they are only nice because we have money. I did not feel this way in the village of Gerupuk, but definitely here in Kuta......
So, tomorrow we are heading to the airport for our long flight home!!!!! Back to our real world.......
This has been an amazing adventure!!!!! I can't wait till our next one!!!!
