Update in computer land......

Whew!!!! What a week.....I have spent every evening after work sitting in front of these 4 computers getting things loaded and such.   Windows 7 doesn't have Outlook Express so had to find another e-mail program.   A friend at work told me about Mozilla Thunderbird and I felt that was my best choice.  Well.......it isn't as easy at it sounds to get it all going.....had to create my account, coming from Cox.   Luckily in the back of my brain somewhere deep and dark I remembered at least part of my incoming and outgoing server names.  Didn't know exactly what they were, but luckily I found my old folder from way back when I first got hooked up and wha-la, there was the info.   Got that all set, but then my port was wrong.  Found this out from a search on Google.....got that fixed and a few other adjustments and now I have e-mail!!!!!  Yipee!!!!  It was a crack up to be working on one computer, getting things going, then swivel in the chair to another one, get it going, turn to another one, get it going.....I felt like an IT person who knew what they were doing......I felt soo smart....ha ha ha ha
I was going to just go with one of the G-mail or Yahoo accts, but everyone knows me by my "e-mail" name......kinda like having to change your phone # with everyone.....a big hassle.  For some reason I can't seem to get mail on my netbook, but I haven't given up yet!!!
So.... for almost an entire week of evenings I have just now figured e-mail out.  I still have to get everything e-mail related transferred over.   Working on my "favorites" list now.    I know there is an easier way, but for now I have to do what I understand... It works for me, but I know more time consuming.
I haven't even begun to think about moving all my "important" stuff to the new computer.....all those programs......and I won't have my "Office" anymore - guess I gotta bite the bullet and buy that one again.......bummer!!!!   This is a great time to "clean house" though.   I think this is why computers get obsolete, so we have to purge and start over!!!!  :-)
OK, enough of a break, back to it.....my eyes are going to cross pretty soon.
Any techy's out there, feel free to point me in any direction that might be faster......

  1. Shel! Don't go to the expense of buying Office...I'm now using a FREE program that mimics the Microsoft one. It was suggested by our IT guy at work. I like it a lot. Called Open Office. It can read MS Office documents and converts them to OO....Call me if you want more info!
