Ants, Ants, Everywhere....

Have the ants taken over in your house??? It seems every time I turn around I find ants in the weirdest places - on my desk and keyboard most recently. I hate spraying poisons so I usually use Windex, but they always seem to come right back. For the past couple years I have made this recipe and it works. To give credit where credit is due, this recipe is from Loren Nancarrow. He was our local news weatherman and his gardening tips and recipes are wonderful. Check out his website : http://www.lorennancarrow.com/ he shares some great info.

Recipe: • •
1 part 20 Mule Team Borax or Boric acid • •
9 parts of a sweet sticky liquid like maple syrup, honey or Karo syrup

I bought those throw-away tupperware containers from the 99 cent store. Drill or poke 4 holes around the bottom edge (entry holes for ants to walk in). Place a spoon full of the bait in the middle of the tub and then put the lid back on.
This bait is not non-toxic, but it is less toxic. The ants carry this bait back to the nest where they feed the entire colony and wipe the nest. This can take up to 2 weeks before you see no more ants. Give it a try and it will be a recipe you grab every year... Thanks Loren..

  1. Wow! That's a lot of ants! I've heard something about Borax working for fleas....need to get Dad to try it -- poor Arlo brings home hitchhikers every time we're down there.
